The Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation wants you to spread the word…It’s Fire Prevention Week 2011!: Protect Your Family
In honor of Fire Prevention Week, the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation would like to offer a few prevention reminders:
- Make sure your furnace or chimney is checked every year.
- Make sure all electrical cords are in good condition.
- Place portable space heaters a minimum of 3 feet away from anything that can catch fire.
- Hold a family meeting to come up with a fire escape plan and hold family fire drills at least twice a year.
- Install smoke alarms on every level of your home and remember to test them monthly to ensure that they are in working condition.
- Never leave food cooking on the stove unattended, especially if you have children.
- Know how to put out a small pan fire by sliding a lid over the flames.
- Learn how and when to use a fire extinguisher.
- Teach every family member to “Stop, Drop & Roll” (the technique of stopping, dropping to the floor and rolling back and forth to smother flames if clothes catch on fire) and “Cool-a-Burn” (burns should be cooled with water, not ice, butter or by other means).
For more information on Fire Prevention Week please visit the National Fire Protection Association.
We also invite you out to join us for the Central Coast Burn Relay on October 13th, 2011. The Burn Relay coincides with national Fire
Prevention Week and is a parade of fire equipment and firefighters providing prevention education to 16 schools in San Luis Obispo County while collecting donations to support the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation. For more information, please call 1-888-492-BURN and we hope to see you there!
